About the Skateboarding Skeleton Artwork:

The journey to the creation of the iconic skateboarding skeleton artwork began in 1977, when artist VCJ designed two black-and-white posters for Bones wheels. A year later, Vernon Courtlandt Johnson endeavored to craft a new and innovative project that would evolve from the Bones theme into a skateboarding skeleton concept.

To ensure the work depicted a highly realistic representation, Van bought a life-sized skeleton from a medical supply store—affectionately named Rosie. After extensive hours spent carefully positioning and adjusting Rosie, the skeleton was rendered frozen in the quintessential pose of a skateboarder.

With the skeleton set, Court began his work, completing his piece in late 1978. This artwork not only became a standout Bones sticker but also marked its debut as a t-shirt graphic under the newly established Powell Peralta brand. The design has since become iconic within the skateboarding community, symbolizing the authenticity and spirit of skate culture.
